Position Opening - Research and Instruction Librarian, West Chester University

West Chester University Libraries seeks a full-time temporary Research and Instruction Librarian for the Spring 2019 semester to provide service at the Research Help Desk. The librarian will also teach General Education information literacy sessions and participate in the library’s Teaching and Learning Team. Schedule is 35 hours per week and anticipated start date is January 22, 2019.

Job Duties:

  • Research Services
    • Provides service at the Research Help Desk, including assigned day, evening and weekend hours. Service at the Research Help Desk includes, but is not limited to, answering reference questions, providing one-to-one research consultations, and guidance and direction in the use of library resources and services in multiple formats.
    • Stays up-to-date with current library tools and resources available to the West Chester University Community.
    • Provides Research Help Desk assistance at other times as a backup.
    • Works cooperatively with other librarians to recommend new procedures or techniques in light of changing technology, cost effectiveness, analysis of work, etc.
  • Instruction
    • Teaches General Education information literacy sessions as scheduled in collaboration with the Student Success Librarian.
    • Prepares instructional and informational materials for classroom use as requested by the faculty and by taking the initiative to prepare library research guides and other materials as appropriate.
  • Other Duties
    • Performs other professional duties as assigned by the Dean of Libraries or designee. This may include substituting for other librarians because of illness or other absence.
    • Keeps current with developments in librarianship by professional reading and attending appropriate meetings, workshops or webinars.
    • Attends Library Faculty and Staff meetings, and other library and university meetings as appropriate.
  • Required Qualifications
    • ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent required.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience providing reference/research assistance in an academic setting
    • Teaching experience
