Position Opening - Student Success and Outreach Librarian, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia is currently accepting applications for a Student Success and Outreach Librarian to join our dedicated team at USciences. We welcome applications from librarians at any stage of their career interested in having a broad range of responsibilities without sacrificing the flexibility to focus on areas that are of most interest to them. We will begin reviewing applications on 10/29.

The Student Success and Outreach Librarian will work closely with librarians, faculty, students, and the university community to develop library services and programs that support student success, recruitment, and retention. The Student Success and Outreach Librarian will design assessments that ensure the quality and effectiveness of those programs and services. As a faculty member in the Department of Information Science, the Student Success and Outreach Librarian performs all professional librarian duties including, but not limited to: reference services, collection development, teaching, scholarly activities, and service.

Major responsibilities will include:

  • Builds relationships across the numerous student support areas (Academic Advising, Student Health, the Writing Center, etc.) at the university to increase knowledge of library services and resources.
  • Collaborates with student support stakeholders to develop programming related to study skills, learning, research techniques, etc.
  • Works with other librarians/information science faculty to implement assessment methods and feedback mechanisms to measure the impact of library services, resources and spaces.
  • Maintains a deep knowledge of current issues and emerging trends in library outreach and identifies relevant initiatives for local implementation.
  • Teaches information literacy classes, holds scheduled reference consultations, and serves at the reference desk.
  • Serves as liaison to assigned academic departments and maintains the library collection in those disciplines.
  • Provides service to the USciences community and the profession by participating in committees, task forces, and appropriate organizations.
  • Engages in scholarly activity or research as a non-tenure track Board-appointed member of the Faculty.

USciences is a small healthcare-focused university, situated in a diverse, community-minded neighborhood in West Philadelphia. We are very fortunate to have a hard-working, respectful student body and strive to cultivate a supportive, inclusive library environment for them in return. Library personnel are well-positioned across the university’s committee structure to ensure we have a voice on issues relevant to our mission. We had a successful migration to Alma/Primo last year and do not anticipate any major projects that would materially affect the Student Success and Outreach Librarian as they acclimate into their position here.
