PALCI will host its first PALCI Update for Directors webinar on September 15th at 2pm. It will include a high-level update on current PALCI programs. The main audience is intended to be deans and directors new to the consortium, but it will also be a great refresher for all PALCI Deans & Directors since PALCI programs are constantly changing. The annual E-ZBorrow Practitioners Meeting will be held at Dickinson College on Thursday, August 3, from 10am-3pm, with Networking and Continental Breakfast at 9am. The meeting will be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person. The agenda and more details will be distributed soon.

There is no charge to attend. Dickinson College will again host this event at no charge, and your PALCI fees underwrite the meals.

New Position Opening - Assistant Dean of Libraries for Assessment & Development, Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Position Summary & Description
Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applications for a Senior Library Administrator with experience in grant writing and development to lead their assessment programs and fundraising efforts. The Assistant Dean of Libraries for Assessment and Development serves as a key member of the Libraries Senior Administration team providing counsel and advice to the Dean of Libraries in academic engagement issues and participates in the overall management of the IUP Libraries including planning and decision-making. The Assistant Dean will be part of the administration team that provides counsel and support on administrative and leadership issues and on academic and organizational matters. The Assistant Dean will coordinate and lead the on-going library assessment program and in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Library Systems and Technologies makes recommendations to the Dean of Libraries. The incumbent will lead the Libraries fundraising initiatives for external funding sources to support library programs and services. The incumbent will prioritize and coordinate the workflow of the Technical Services unit.

Intersections: Technology and Public Services in Special Collections

Every intersection tells a story, what’s yours?

Please join us August 6 - August 8, 2017 for an interactive and engaging symposium “Intersections: Technology and Public Services in Special Collections” at the Penn State University campus in University Park, PA. Engage at the intersection of your institution’s awareness of need and responsive action!

Public services are the most visible part of any archives or special collections library, but also depend upon the efficient functioning of other essential operations.

The 2017 Intersections symposium builds on its predecessors (the Aeon Symposium at Yale in 2015 and at the University of Michigan in 2016). However, this iteration expands on what it means to provide access to collections in the archives and special collections environment. Though Aeon, remains a key tool, partner, and product of focus, Intersections also includes other workflows, tools, partners, and products that are present in our daily work.This symposium also aligns and incorporates many of the key components of the RBMS and SAA’s Metrics and Assessment Task Force report to broach broader topics with regard to assessing impact via meaningful metrics. Please join us for this exploration of how technology, assessment, and public service intersect to support discovery and access of cultural heritage collections. Public service special collections professionals truly work at the intersection of where technology meets end-users' needs. Colleagues with an interest in public services in the special collections world are invited to attend, regardless of the tools locally used.

Registration is free; participants are only responsible for travel, meal and accommodation costs. Symposiums are meant to be inclusive and to incorporate perspective and dialogue from many different sources. We hope you will submit a proposal to be a part of this crucial discussion.

2017 PA Forward Information Literacy Summit

Registration for the 2017 PA Forward Information Literacy Summit is now open!  The Summit takes place on July 19, 2017, and this year’s theme ofLibraries and Maker Culture:  Co-constructing Learning Experiences and Learning Environments has provided a platform for us to plan a full day of dynamic, innovative talks and workshops that are sure to inspire you and give you at least a few ideas that you will be able to implement immediately.

Registration will be open through July 12, 2017, but is limited to 110 registrants, so register early!  Registration fees are as follows, and registration includes lunch and snacks:

 

·         PaLA members:  $45.00

·         Students:  $25.00

 

The Summit will take place at Penn State’s University Park campus, and attendees can make reservations at The Penn Stater under the “Information Literacy Summit Guest Room Block for July 18, 2017” at a discounted rate of $118.
